Halloween is a great night of fun for many children, but for some little ones, it can overwhelming and downright frightening. Here, we list sensory tips so your little ones can fully enjoy the night!
Try on and wear costumes for a period of time at home before Halloween day to see if it is comfortable and make modifications, if needed
Wear soft, comfortable clothes underneath costumes OR for children who like deep pressure, try wearing tight, stretchy shirts/leggings under costumes (e.g., Under Armour)
Trick-or-treat before it is dark outside
If it is dark, give child a flashlight so she/he can control and direct light
Visit neighbor and friend homes first, so children can practice and learn what to expect when trick-or-treating
Avoid houses with elaborate or moving figures and/or decorations if this causes fear
