LOCAL INSURANCE AGENCY ENCOURAGES COMMUNITY TO TAKE A SWING AT DISABILITIES

Rockville, MD, April 9, 2003 – Senate Insurance sponsored the 2003 Sno-Ball Softball Tournament to benefit TLC – The Treatment and Learning Centers, a non-profit organization helping children and adults with hearing, speech-language, or learning disabilities and neurological impairments achieve vocational and educational success.  The tournament, Washington area’s largest during the pre-season, was held on Saturday, April 5th and Sunday, April 6th. Registered teams participated in slow-pitch softball games at regional parks throughout Montgomery County.

Since 1981, this tournament has hosted over 1,000 teams competing in one of six divisions, including 1 co-recreational and 4 men’s divisions.  Each registered team was assigned to a designated field where they played several elimination style games on the premier day of the event.  On Sunday, April 6th, the top two teams of each division played in the final championship rounds.  Trophies and tournament t-shirts were distributed to all first, second and third place teams.  The 1st place team in each division will receive a complimentary berth in the ASA (American Softball Association) Regional Tournament.  This years 1st place winners in each division are as follows:  Regular Co-Recreational – Maryland Yutes; Men’s Masters (55+) – Fireside Inn; Men’s B/Super C – Mama Lucia; Men’s C winner  – Damon’s Grill; and Men’s D – C & F Construction.

This tournament is a cooperative effort of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Montgomery County Recreation Department, the Gaithersburg and Rockville Parks and Recreation Departments and the Greater Washington Softball Umpires Association.
