TLC – The Treatment and Learning
Centers
(301) 424-5200, ext. 270
Rockville, MD, August 26, 2003 – The Treatment and Learning
Centers, a non-profit organization, which helps children and adults with a wide
range of disabilities, today announced that they have been awarded a $25,000
grant from the Philip L. Graham Fund.
The grant will help TLC complete funding for the final phase of a
three-year technology plan for a centralized clinical database. By installing this technology, TLC will be
able to eliminate their current manual/paper system and begin processing client
records, scheduling patients, and billing electronically.
The benefits and outcomes of
completing the final phase extends well beyond TLC to both the community and to
the 2,700 individuals they serve annually.
The centralized database will secure client records efficiently, improve
patient tracking of consumer satisfaction and quality of service issues, and enhances
TLC ability to effectively manage case information related to a client that
receives services in several areas of therapy.
“The generous support of the
Philip L. Graham Fund over the past several years has helped TLC, so that many
children have been able to achieve success in overcoming primary learning
disabilities”, said Richard Pavlin, executive director at TLC. “This grant will improve not just our
services, but will also improve our ability to properly schedule our patients
and how we handle patient information.”
The Fund was established in 1963 to honor the memory of Philip L. Graham, who was publisher of The Washington Post and president of The Washington Post Company for many years before his death. Gifts from his widow, Katharine Meyer Graham, his friends and The Washington Post Company formed the initial corpus of the Fund. From its earliest days, the Fund has used its resources, first, for the betterment of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and, second, for improvements in the field of journalism and communications. Current annual giving is about $5,000,000. Mrs. Graham served as founding trustee of the Fund until her death in July 2001. The Fund’s current trustees are Donald E. Graham, Mary M. Bellor, Martin Cohen, Theodore C. Lutz, and Lionel W. Neptune. Candice C. Bryant serves as president of the Fund.
