THE KATHERINE THOMAS SCHOOL AT TLC RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING FROM

THE MORRIS AND GWENDOLYN CAFRITZ FOUNDATION

Rockville, MD, November 25, 2003 The Treatment and Learning Centers, a non-profit organization, which helps children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, today announced that they have been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. The grant will help TLC provide partial scholarship funds for tuition and related services for four low-income, learning-disabled students from the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland. The scholarship funds will allow these students to continue their education at TLC's Katherine Thomas School for the 2003-2004 school year.

The Katherine Thomas School at TLC is a private, special education day school, preschool to eighth grade, serving 100 students with moderate to severe learning disabilities. The school serves several public school jurisdictions, including subsidized and private-pay students from the District of Columbia, Maryland counties, and Virginia, as an alternative to public school special education. The scholarship fund enables low-income families who require financial assistance to enroll their children at KTS and begin the specialized education that they require immediately. Many students also have delays associated with their disability that require additional services in speech or occupational therapy that can be subsidized through the scholarship fund.

TLC's subsidy program for students at KTS began in 1996. This past school year, TLC was able to provide 7 scholarships and subsidies totaling over $100,000. The children who receive the scholarships would not have been able to remain at The Katherine Thomas School without the subsidy funds.

The Board and staff are committed to enrolling students regardless of income and the scholarship fund ensures that families who demonstrate a need for financial assistance can enroll their children in our programs, said Richard Pavlin, executive director at TLC. We cant thank the Cafritz Foundation enough for their generosity and continued support for the past six years.
