TLC RAISES AWARENESS ABOUT
COMMUNICATION DISORDERS DURING BETTER HEARING AND SPEECH MONTH
Rockville, MD, April 22, 2003 – The Treatment and Learning Centers, a non-profit organization, which helps children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, today announced that they would be hosting events throughout the month of May to celebrate Better Hearing and Speech Month. Speech, language, and hearing disorders affect over 42 million Americans. You, your child, or your parents could be one of them. TLC encourages you to take preventive measures when it comes to your health. With the proper treatment, most people will be able to eliminate or minimize the effects of communication disorders.
“This month is the perfect opportunity for professionals in the field of speech-language pathology and audiology to raise awareness in the community and help to improve the quality of life for individuals with communication disorders,” says Dr. Patricia Ritter, assistant executive director at TLC and licensed speech-language pathologist.
TLC will kick off the month with free screenings! Speech-language screenings will be offered to children ages 3-14 and hearing screenings to ages 3 & up on Friday, May 16th. The Speech-Language Department will present a free workshop on Monday, May 19th, “Encouraging Language Development in Preschoolers” by Amy Krull, M.A., CCC-SLP, Director of Outpatient Speech. The Family Hearing Center at TLC and Widex will be co-hosting a free seminar on Tuesday, May 20th from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. and Wednesday, May 21st from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M., “Hearing Aid Technology”. Reservations are required for these events due to limited appointments and seating. Please RSVP to 301-424-5200 ext. 147.
