Professional Workshop Series     Workshop Registration

The goals of our communications programs are to inform the public and increase awareness and knowledge of TLC programs and services. We provide community seminars; informational advertising and articles in local media; a publication program of newsletters and brochures; presentations for health care and educational professionals; educational workshops at TLC for professionals and parents that focus on educational and developmental issues of children. We participate in local civic and national professional organizations as further examples of our outreach efforts.

“ESTABLISHING A GOOD PARENT-TEACHER TEAM” Tuesday, April 1, 2008, 6:308:30 p.m., by Beverly Celotta, Ph.D., Consulting Psychologist, TLC. Professionals at all levels will be given skills they can use to create a cooperative relationship with parents while dealing with difficult situations.


“SENSORY INTEGRATION STRATEGIES FOR THE CLASSROOM” Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 6:308:30 p.m., by Debra Paton, B.S., OTR/L, TLC. Professionals at the preschool level will be provided with strategies to use in the classroom or school setting for children with attention, coordination, and sensory issues. Teacher will be provided a frame of reference to identify children with sensory issues.


“HELPING CHILDREN MANAGE ANXIETY” Thursday, April 24, 2008, 6:158:15 p.m., by Lisa Lenhart, Ph.D., TLC. This workshop is designed to help individuals learn how to identify signs of anxiety in children, and how to help children cope with the anxieties that they experience.


“PHONETIC METHODS FOR TEACHING READING” Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 6:308:30 p.m., by Janice Jones, M.Ed., TLC. Professionals working with students at the preschool-elementary school level will get an overview of methods that can be used to start teaching children to decode words and advance into reading. Participants will also receive practical suggestions for materials to make.


“LANGUAGE PROCESSING DISORDERS” Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 6:308:30 p.m., by Emily Kinsler, CCC/SLP.D., TLC. This workshop will help professionals profile the different types of language processing problems that may be presented in the school-age population and what types of intervention might be most helpful.


“WORKING WITH THE CHALLENGING CHILD IN YOUR CLASSROOM” Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 6:308:30 p.m., by Beverly Celotta, Ph.D., Consulting Psychologist, TLC. Professionals will learn some basic facts about mental illness in young children, as well as some general and specific things you can do to help the special needs children in your care who may be identified with Autism, OCD, ADHD, and other issues.


“SPELLING STRATEGIES” Tuesday, May 20, 2008, 6:308:30 p.m., by Janice Jones, M.Ed., TLC. Participants at the elementary level will be given an overview of ways to teach spelling using phonics, spelling by syllables, spelling rules, games, and multisensory methods.

All workshops are $30.00 per person in advance, $35.00 at the door.

  • Fee includes materials, refreshments and discussion period to address specific concerns of participants.
  • Most workshops qualify for Continuing Education Credit with the Child Care Administration (Provider #CKO-30975). Topics have also been submitted to the Maryland Board of Examiners for speech-language pathologists and audiologists for Continuing Education credit. Call TLC prior to registration to confirm approval for either CCA or MD BOE.
