The goals of our communications programs are to inform the public
and increase awareness and knowledge of TLC programs and services.
We provide community seminars; informational advertising and
articles in local media; a publication program of newsletters and
brochures; presentations for health care and educational
professionals; educational workshops at TLC for professionals and
parents that focus on educational and developmental issues of
children. We participate in local civic and national professional
organizations as further examples of our outreach efforts.

“IDENTIFICATION, UNDERSTANDING & ADDRESSING LEARNING
DISABILITIES IN SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN” Thursday, March 11,
2010, 6:15–8:15 p.m. by Lisa Lenhart, Ph.D. Participants will gain
an understanding of the process involved in identifying a learning
disability, the characteristics of children with learning
disabilities, and the strategies that can be helpful in addressing
learning disabilities. Focus will also be given to understanding a
child’s perspective of having a learning disability. (Core of

“PARTNERING WITH PARENTS: Establishing a Good Parent-Teacher
Team” Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. by Sally
Neuberger, LCSW. This workshop will describe the importance of
collaboration and cooperation when working with families.
Participants will learn strategies for sharing suggestions with
families as well as managing misunderstanding and recovering from

children become bullies, how to help these children decrease their
bullying behavior and how to help other children deal with bullying

“I DON’T CARE ABOUT YOU: Encouraging Tolerance & Flexibility

young children and address techniques to teach and practice with
young children in the classroom. Attendees will learn how to

on expanding children's language skills, including how to use turn
taking, imitation, building/scaffolding, connecting nonverbally and

“WAYS TO PREVENT HITTING, BITING & OTHER FORMS OF BAD
BEHAVIOR” Tuesday, May 11, 2010, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. by
Beverly Celotta, Ph.D. Professionals working with children between
the ages of 2½ - 6 will receive practical information to prevent bad
behavior and will be given specific ways to address biting, kicking,
