HOMEWORK FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 7^TH AND 14^TH

CLARIFICATION OF READING RESPONSE LOGS J

READING RESPONSE LOGS

***** The reading response logs will not be due till Monday, September 13^th. This will give the students’ more time to get into the routine of middle school homework.********

+++++If your student needs more time in the future with the reading response logs (i.e. it would be helpful for them to turn them in on Monday instead of Fridays that is fine with me too. Please e-mail me and let me know that the response logs will be in on Monday. J+++++++

For the 6^th graders and anyone else who would feel comfortable doing the assignment this way please do the following:

a.     After reading for 10-15 minutes, have your student pick a phrase from the page called, “Reading Response Phrases”.

b.     They will write their response on the paper I have given them today. Please disregard the notebook paper. If they would rather type it, that is fine with me too. J

c.     Please don’t worry about the graphic organizer or the non-fiction pages. We will deal with those next week. J

For the 7^th and 8^th graders:

a.     They can do the assignment as stated above. Each phrase completed from the “Reading Response Phrases” is considered 1 assignment completed. (There are 3 due for Monday)

b.     They can do the graphic organizer in the packet. Please make sure they write 3 sentences in the summary box and 3 questions in the question box. They will need to make only 1 picture.  This is considered 1 assignment completed.

c.     If they want to use a Washington Post article or a magazine article from home, they will fill in the pages from the end of the packet stated: Nonfiction Conventions Notebook. If they do the Labels page, the photograph, and the subtitles then they have completed the 3 assignments needed for this week.
